At File Optimized, privacy isn't just a feature - it's our foundation. Your files are processed entirely in your browser and never uploaded to our servers. You have complete control over your data.
How We Handle Your Files
Client-Side Processing
All file compression, conversion, and optimization happens directly in your web browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. This means:
- Your files never leave your device during processing
- We cannot see, access, or store your media files
- No file data is transmitted to any server during core compression operations
Note: An internet connection is required to load the application and for authentication. Optional features that you explicitly trigger, such as AI metadata generation and social sharing, temporarily transmit the selected file to a secure processing service. These features are clearly labeled, always optional, and never run automatically.
Information We Collect
Account Information (Optional)
If you choose to create an account, we collect: email address, name (if provided), and account preferences.
Payment Information (Pro Users)
Payment processing is handled by Stripe (PCI-DSS compliant). We never store or access your card numbers. We only receive payment status, subscription details, and last 4 digits for display.
Usage Analytics
We may collect aggregated, anonymous usage statistics including page views, browser type, and general geographic location (country level only). This cannot identify individual users.
Cookies & Local Storage

- Advertising cookies: Google AdSense may show ads to free users - these only load after you give consent via our cookie banner

Since file processing happens in your browser, your files are never transferred internationally. Account data may be stored in servers in different countries with appropriate safeguards.
Data Retention
We retain account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your data within 30 days (except where legally required). Your media files are never stored on our servers.

We may update this policy for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. We'll notify you via website notice or email for significant changes. Continued use indicates acceptance of updates.
